CTU - Communications and Campaigns

The New Zealand Council of Trade Unions Te Kauae Kaimahi is seeking to employ a suitable person to manage our communications. 

The role includes management of CTU media liaison, campaign coordination, production of resource material for CTU affiliated unions and maintenance of the CTU websites.

We are looking for a person who:

• Has experience in media management and external communications strategies
• Can prepare resource and information material to support union campaigns
• Has writing and publishing skills to produce internal communications
• Has working knowledge of the potential campaign opportunities in online communications
• Can work easily with a range of people
• Has a commitment to unionism and social justice issues
• Has experience of coordinating and resourcing campaigns

UNION ORGANISER (WELLINGTON BASED) 
NATIONAL DISTRIBUTION UNION

Applications are invited for the position cross-sector (predominately Retail Sector) Union Organiser in the Wellington region for the National Distribution Union.   The Organiser may also be required to work on one or more national industry projects in a co-ordinating role.

You would be working with a team to recruit and represent workers and to build stronger union workplaces.

The successful applicant will be a great one-to-one and group communicator and have a strong commitment to giving workers the opportunity to be part of a union.   Experience as a union delegate, union organiser and\or an activist in community campaigns is desirable.

Ideally applicants will have a sound knowledge of union matters including an understanding of current industrial legislation and a strong commitment to the trade union movement.

MEMBER SUPPORT CENTRE – 2 POSITIONS. EMPLOYMENT RIGHTS – ADVICE AND ADVOCACY ROLE
NATIONAL DISTRIBUTION UNION

The National Distribution Union is seeking two staff for our new its new Member Support Centre.   This centre is a new resource for members and delegates.

The main duties would be providing information and advice to delegates and members on employment relations issues; representing and advocating on behalf of members with employment relations problems (through to mediation in some cases); and making and receiving calls relating to union activities and campaigns.

Ideally applicants will have a great phone and personal manner, have excellent knowledge of employment rights and employment law relating to individual worker entitlements and well-developed problem solving skills and advocacy skills.

Interest would be expected from union officials with a particular interest in casework; law graduates wanting to gain experience in the employment field or others with employment law experience; experienced union organisers looking to “downsize” their responsibilities in the twilight of their career or take a break from a full organiser workload or experienced community workers with the aptitude to gain employment law knowledge.

EPMU Research Officer

SOLICITOR – EMPLOYMENT LAW FOCUS

The National Distribution Union is seeking a solicitor to lead our national legal work.   The position is currently Auckland based and our preference will be for applicants who live in or can relocate to Auckland.   An exceptional applicant wishing to be based in Wellington would be considered.

The role offers a diverse and challenging workload, with primary responsibility for representing the Union and its members in employment and ACC matters.   It includes work on law reform and the development and promotion of legal training resources for members and other staff.

The successful candidate will be expected to work autonomously, but in close liaison with the Wellington law firm with which we have a service agreement.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate support for union aims and values from their previous work or community experience.
