Young People Would Love The Chance To Debate Lowering Voting Age

"Young people would love the chance to debate a lowering of the voting age to 16," CTU Youth Union Movement Co-Convenor Ingrid Beckers said today.

"Youth Union Movement will be discussing it at our biennial camp later this year and raising it within the wider CTU union movement."

“What won’t be contentious is the move to strengthen civics education in schools, which will have a lot of support.”

"Unions are active promoters of the democratic process and we encourage our members and their families to be involved politically.  Lowering the voting age is an issue that would be well worthy of debate and we will be organising workers to make their voices heard if the Bill is drawn," Ingrid Beckers said.
